Today we reviewed the key concepts of the Italian Renaissance, and began preparing to understand the impact of the Northern Renaissance. Be sure you review your handout from today, found here
In class later this week, I will be going over the finer points of the writing assignment, which is due next Thursday, March 7th.
For now, you should begin exploring the topic by taking a closer look at the texts used as "dramatic readings" during Renaissance Week. You will be asked to connect what you know or what you can research to the reading of your city-state. You will be asked to cite one source, and you will be given a format to follow.
Revised Milan dramatic reading:
Nature does not tie an apple to the branch
Or Spring the flowers to the grass,
As well as precious stones from the hand of Caradosso come forth
Set in jewelry for the person who judges them.
Milan, take pleasure that within your walls,
You have today the honor of excellent men;
Da Vinci, whose designs and colors
Make the moderns and ancients fear.
What can one say of that Alessandrian sun (Giorgio Merula of
Alessandria)
Who, in letters, Greek and Latin,
Has given light to those searching minds
Here from Jupiter is that vulcan called Giannino.
Better than these people, no one could presume to be.
For, today, they are four stars divine.
-Bernardo Bellincioni
