Quote Responsibilities
Each day, a different city-state (or two) are responsible for finding a quote that, in some way, "embodies" the spirit of the Italian Renaissance. It must be copied onto the Quote section of the whiteboard at the beginning or end of class, and discussed by a member of your city-state. This can be a collaborative effort between classes, or different for each class.
Cathedral Pieces & Tournament
You will have one major assessment for the week, which will be due on Thursday. Your entire city-state needs to research famous buildings in your city-state so you can come up with a table-top sized version of Cathedral, specific to your city state. I will demonstrate by making a set of buildings based in Rome (Papal States), and on Friday we will have a grand cathedral tournament in each class that might determine the Renaissance Week winners. It is imperative that you and your classmates are organized, and divide the responsibility early in the week so that your buildings will be ready on time. I will be available before school and during advisory time to assist. Use the pieces below to get ideas for your buildings; each square has to correspond to a square of equal size on the floor of my room. A few things to remember:
1. Your buildings don't HAVE to correspond to the names given on the pieces below. In fact, the more creative you are, the better your chances are at winning the game piece design contest, which is worth the most points of anything all week.
2. You need to make sure you have TWO OF EACH of the first three pieces below (tavern, stable, and inn), along with ONE EACH of the rest.
3. Please be sure your buildings are uniformly outlined or shaded with your city-state color. They also need to have the name of the building clearly written on the front of the piece, which needs to have an "approximate" birds-eye view. Points will be awarded not only for the creativity of selecting each piece, but also for overall artistry of the pieces by city-state.
4. Each piece has squares that measure approximately 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches. You will likely need to have a crew get together soon and prepare the pieces so they can be drawn on.
